Exclusive Video Interview: Jared Padalecki Talks About 'Supernatural' Season 4
At the beginning of September, BuddyTV had just come back from visiting the set of Supernatural where we learned that Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are roommates. Well, here's the interview that proves it. Straight out of the horse's mouth, Jared and Jensen are roommates. Not only that, but they also hang out together and play guitar when they go home after a long day of work. How cute is that?

Jared took some time out of his busy day of filming to answer our questions about Supernatural and Sam Winchester. Sadly, this is the final video interview of the boys that we'll have for a while, but I don't think it will be our last. We're all big Supernatural fans here at BuddyTV, and I think we've made a great impression with the CW and with the powers that be at Supernatural, so I'm hoping that we'll be able to get some more good video exclusives pretty soon.

Jared Padalecki shared that the chemistry between Sam and Dean is not something that he has to work on. We all know this to be true, but isn't it a good feeling to hear again that Jared and Jensen are great friends off the set too?

Jared hinted that as this season progresses, Sam's relationship with Dean will continue to change. Jared says that they'll start keeping things from each other. Now, we already know that Sam is hiding his new hobby of using his power to exorcise demons with new Ruby, but so far, Dean has come clean about everything to his little brother. That'll change after tonight's episode. We'll find out tonight that Dean will have to start keeping secrets from Sam as well.

One thing that I've always found so impressive about Jared Padalecki is his ability to excel in both comic and tragic scenes. Actually, that's a compliment that I would extend in a heartbeat to all of Supernatural in general. But it's interesting to learn that Jared finds the dramatic scenes much easier than the funny ones.

I asked Jared if there are any classic monsters that he'd like to see on Supernatural. Well, he didn't exactly answer my question, but he did mention that he likes the good versus evil themes that abound in movies like Star Wars. I'm glad he mentioned Star Wars because that hints to the fact that maybe he himself is secretly a nerdy fanboy, even though he looks like such a stud on the outside. I mean this in the best possible way because I happen to think that nerdy fanboys are the best kinds of boys. If and when I get the opportunity to talk again, I want to try to make it my personal mission to unearth his inner nerd so that we can geek out together.

Misha Collins Interview — JustJared.com Exclusive
Supernatural’s latest cast member, Misha Collins, gave JustJared.com guest contributor Alana Lynch a call yesterday to talk about his latest role as the angel Castiel. (You may have seen Misha on the first season of 24, as well as guest appearances on CSI, CSI: New York, and Without a Trace.) Misha talked on-set pranks, his dream of kayaking in the Olympics, and the possibility of Alanis Morisette making an appearance as God on Supernatural.

The interview also includes talking about Jared, here's a little snippet of that conversation!

JJ: We promise we’re not going to tell Jared [Padalecki] and Jensen [Ackles] this, but you mentioned that you might do a “first strike” on the prank war, so have you come up with anything yet?
MC: Well, first of all, if I had come up with anything I certainly wouldn’t be able to circulate it in advance. That would be just bad form. I mean it’s a good thing I hadn’t, because I’d just be shooting myself in the foot at the same time. You know what, I don’t know… Do you know what pranks they have done in the past?

JJ: Well, I know that Jared has sewn shut the hole in Jensen’s pants so he could’t put his legs in.
MC: [laughs] That’s good!

JJ: And I know they got pranked before with getting the black ink on their binoculars so when they pull them down they’ve got the black circles around their eyes.
MC: [laughs] That’s good too. All right, it’s good that it’s little bit more of a known enemy and I know what I’m dealing with. That’s good.

JJ: Ok, so semi-serious here, who has better hair - you or Jared Padalecki?
MC: Well, he has more hair…

JJ: Yeah, it’s quite the point of contention.
MC: I used to have long hair, as well, and it has its advantages. But I’m willing to concede this one to Jared. He has better hair than I do.

Supernatural: Lucifer is Busting Out All Over
I'm beginning to understand why creator Eric Kripke has repeatedly said he'd like to end Supernatural after its fifth season. The first episode of season 4 introduced God and angels into the show's mythology, while last night's installment began setting up a showdown between the Winchesters and Lucifer himself. Lilith's quest to break the 66 seals sounds like it'd take about two seasons, and if Sam and Dean successfully thwart her and stop Satan from walking the Earth, where else could the series possibly go? Once you've beaten back Lucifer and the armies of Hell, everything else seems like small potatoes

I don't feel it's a bad thing that Kripke seems to be setting the series up for its eventual end. I'm glad he's thinking ahead and pulling the villain to top all villains out of his hat. Focusing on a specific endgame helped make shows like Lost and Battlestar Galactica better than ever, and I think Supernatural is on a similar path. As much as I loved the overarching stories of the first three seasons, none grabbed me as instantly as this Heaven vs. Hell setup. Season 4 of Supernatural is building to something truly epic, with the apocalypse nipping at the Winchesters' heels. It feels like all hell is about to break loose once again.

Aside from the Lucifer bombshell, one of the highlights of last night's episode was the return of Meg, Henricksen and Ronald. Not only did these characters act as a gut-wrenching reminder of the innocent people the Winchesters failed to save, but their return was like an extra treat for loyal Supernatural fans. As BuddyTV reader N0Nightowl pointed out, the episode may have been more powerful had Bobby's wife been the one to haunt him. It's possible the actress wasn't available, so it's certainly a forgivable gripe.

Last night's episode also found Ruby 2.0 making a run for it, possibly never to return. The demon understandably had no desire to hang around and risk being spotted by an extremely powerful angel. I'm really not a fan of what Genevieve Cortese has brought to the role (mainly a lisp and a blank stare), so I won't miss her.

What do you think of the direction Supernatural is taking this season? Do you want more monsters and fewer Biblical shenanigans, or is it time to bring on the apocalypse?

Exclusive Video Interview: Jim Beaver Discusses his Role on 'Supernatural'
One of my favorite parts of last week's third Supernatural season opener was when Dean (Jensen Ackles) first goes to see Bobby (Jim Beaver) after being pulled out of Hell. It was emotional on so many levels. Dean, I'm sure, didn't quite know what to make of his return to earth, and Bobby, well, couldn't you just see how torn up he was when Dean arrived at his front door? He so desperately wanted to believe that Dean was back, but he was wary and on his guard in case it was really a demon who had taken over Dean's meat suit. What a perfect performance on both their parts!

I always love the episodes that include Bobby. It gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside to know that Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean have a father figure whom they can turn to whenever they need help. Bobby is like the boys' Giles, except that he wears flannel instead of tweed. Here's a tiny clue about tonight's all-new episode: Bobby is at his Giles-iest, poring through and translating ancient texts to figure out how to stop an attack of vengeful supernatural beings.

When BuddyTV went up to visit the Supernatural boys, we were lucky that Jim Beaver was on set that day too. He was kind enough to answer our questions. He talked about what it's like to work on such a great show like Supernatural and told us about some of the funny antics that go on behind the scenes.

Although Jim does not appear in every episode of Supernatural, he does keep himself very busy. He has just written a book about a very difficult time in his life, and he also confirmed that he'll be a series regular on Harper's Island, an upcoming midseason mystery drama on CBS. Don't worry, though! The new show will not affect his role on Supernatural. As Jim himself said in his earlier interview, Supernatural fans would not hesitate to tar and feather Eric Kripke if he ever decided to kill off Bobby, so Bobby is here to stay.

Exclusive Interview: Misha Collins of 'Supernatural'
The world of Supernatural will never be the same after the shocking twist in last week's season premiere. We learned that an angel named Castiel pulled Dean from the fires of Hell, which immediately added an entirely new facet to the show's mythology. Not only do Heavenly beings exist in the Supernatural universe, but Dean is now working for one.

I had a chance to sit down today with actor Misha Collins, who plays Castiel on the CW series. He talked about his role on the show, what it's like to work with Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, and what fans can expect to see in upcoming episodes. Read on for the mp3 and complete transcript of the interview.

'Supernatural': Who believes in demons, but not the Big G?
O ye faithful Superfans, I've been wondering for weeks what you'd think about the big-tent revival meeting that is this season. With Dean (Jensen Ackles) snatched out of Hell by the angel Castiel (Misha Collins), all of a sudden big questions of theology are invading our good-time Thursday nights. This was never more true than last night, with the pour souls the hunters couldn't save rising from the grave for payback.

Heartless aside: Yes, yes, hunter deaths are bad, but as long as Bobby's (Jim Beaver) okay. I'm okay. Moving on…

As the souls came to take their vengeance they raised a point or two about the way the hunters do business: Did Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean really have to kill nearly every demonic soul they encountered, and thus, the innocent human trapped inside? It's an interesting point to ponder, but correct if I'm wrong (and I know you will), the answer's always been: YES! These innocent human host bodies are dead anyway, right? That's what we've been told. So what's with raising the false points of contention, arguing over whether Sam and Dean are really heroes?

To my mind, that line of thinking is of a piece with Dean doubting the existence of the big G, Him (or Her) self. Yeah, sure, Dean is wounded and pessimistic. We get that. But is our beloved leader Eric Kripke really trying to convince us that a guy who's been fighting demons most of his adult life really can't accept that maybe there might be a God in Heaven, along with ultimate evil down below? It just seems silly for him to believe in one thing, but not the other. It's like saying, "I acknowledge the existence of Oreos, but this Cookies and Cream, of which you speak, is unmitigated balderdash!"

Can we deal with what is, please? Dean needs to get with this apparently imminent apocalypse, accept that this God entity is real, and make with the world-saving. Unless of course Castiel is no angel. Then I take it all back.

From the Set: Supernatural's Jared Padalecki on Sam's Mojo, Dean's Death and... Weird Al?
Check out Jared Padalecki, all dressed up in his best ghost-investigating suit! His wardrobe may be formal, but Jared sure isn't! He talks to our own Jason C. about what Sam's been going through, the dangers he encountered at his first Comic Con, how he spent his vacation (he was at camp, but it wasn't relaxing!), and the Supernatural equivalent of being immortalized in a Weird Al song. Plus, check out his awesome "You want a piece of me?!?" head snake toward the end!

Are You There God? It’s Me, Dean Winchester: A Review
Last week’s season 4 opener of Supernatural, Lazarus Rising, garnered an impressive 3.96 rating; which is the highest rating the hit Warner Bros/ CW Network series has had since the first season episode ‘Devil’s Trap’ was aired on the now defunct WB Network. In Lazarus Rising viewers saw the dramatic resurrection of Dean Winchester (played by Jensen Ackles) by the Angel Castiel (played by Misha Collins). Castiel had yanked Dean out of hell and put him back into his body because God, who has work for Dean to do, had commanded it. This resurrection reunited Dean with his brother Sam Winchester (played Jared Padalecki) who, in his grief over the loss of Dean has turned to the demon Ruby (currently played by Genevieve Cortese) to help him learn to use his special powers to fight back against the new ‘big bad’ Lillith.

The second episode of Supernatural season 4 is titled ‘Are You There God? It’s Me, Dean Winchester. This rather lengthy episode title is a take on the title of a very popular Judy Blume teen novel, titled, ‘Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret’. Like the novel this episode derives it’s title from, the second episode of Supernatural season 4 deals with Dean Winchester’s questions about God and why God has chosen Dean to be yanked out of hell by the Angel Castiel and given the task of ‘doing God’s work’.

In this episode, Jensen Ackles turns in another stunningly perfect performance. Ackles hits every emotional mark and comedic nuance with seemingly effortless ease as his character of Dean Winchester grapples not only with his ‘why me’ questions, but with issues that are forced upon him by the circumstances of other events in this episode. The last scene between Dean Winchester and the Angel Castiel is an amazing body of work between Ackles and Collins that left this viewer with chill running up and down her spine.

The storyline of the episode, written by Eric Kripke and Sera Gamble, also revolves around the machinations of Lillith. As Eric Kripke himself revealed in a recent video interview, Lillith is working on a plan to free Lucifer from his imprisonment by breaking sixty-six of the seals that, according to the Book of Revelations in the Bible, hold him trapped. The first seal to be broken opens the door for the writers to bring back several fan favorite characters from the past but with a strange twist added to them. The characters brought back are Ronald Reznick (Chris Gauthier), Victor Hendricksen (Charles Malik Whitfield) and Meg Masters (Nicki Aycox), as the vengeful spirits of people the Winchesters couldn’t save. Also added into the mix are two creepy twin girls that Bobby Singer (played by Jim Beaver) couldn’t save.

In my opinion this part of the storyline was unevenly written and could have used having the pace tightened in several places. Since for me the jury is still out on Genevieve Cortese as the new Ruby, it is my opinion that some of the pivotal scenes that Jared Padalecki’s character of Sam Winchester had in the episode were weakened by Ruby not being as strong a character as she could be. To the credit of the actress, it seems to me to be more about the writers not quite finding where Ruby’s ‘voice’ is right now than anything.

However two things within this part of the episode stand out to make all of ‘Are You There God? Its Me, Dean Winchester’ storylines well worth watching.

One is something Supernatural, in my opinion, does better than any other series on television and that is to blend action and exposition into a seamless process. Never is this more evident than how the writers, in the midst of the action, give us more background on the character of Bobby Singer and his life.

The other thing that makes it worthwhile is the presence of Nicki Aycox as Meg Masters. Though I am a bit at a loss as to figure out why most of her story line and action is done opposite Dean Winchester instead of Sam Winchester, Aycox and Ackles have an onscreen dynamic that ignites the screen with energy. Nicki Aycox rises to the challenge of this new variation of Meg with ease. She once again proves why, for so many Supernatural viewers, Meg Masters and Aycox’s acting in the role has set the standard of excellence that other females characters in Supernatural are often judged by.

Are You There God? Its Me, Dean Winchester, is going to be airing up against the competition of Grey’s Anatomy’s season premiere, but despite what I see as some uneven storytelling and some parts that I felt went on a bit too long, I think this episode is going to stand a decent chance of holding onto at least 90% of last weeks impressive viewer ship and ratings. It has all the elements of good Supernatural episode: the Winchester brothers back in action together, Sam Winchester (played by Jared Padalecki) moving ever further into the path of Lillith and her plans to bring destruction into the world. It has demons, angels and spirits. Check it out.

The second episode of Supernatural’s season four, Are You There God? Its Me, Dean Winchester airs Thursday, September 25 at 9PM EST on the CW Network.
